Hunting Requirements

  • Wisconsin State Park admission sticker
    WI license plates: $7/day or $25/annual
    Out of State license plates: $10/day or $35/annual
    Pay at the window during business hours or at the self-registration box to the right of the window.
  • Daily hunting permit: $3/pheasant, $1/all other game. After stocking ends, pheasant hunting is $1/day. All daily hunting permits must be purchased prior to hunting each day at RBSRA entrance station and be kept on you at all times.
  • Pheasant hunters must purchase the permit from the attendant. All other game hunters may use the self registration drop box, located at the right of the window at the entrance station.
  • Hunters must have appropriate Wisconsin hunting license.
  • *Pheasant hunters must have a pheasant stamp.
  • *Waterfowl hunters must have both state and federal waterfowl stamps and be HIP certified.
  • Dove hunters must be HIP certified.
  • New 2008: Non-toxic shot MUST be used to hunt mourning doves, snipe, and rail on DNR Lands.
  • Consult you current Wisconsin hunting regulation booklets for all rules and regulations. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING THE LAWS AND THE LIMITS.

    * Check regulations for exceptions.

Please be respectful of other hunters and abide by the rules. Please pick up your spent shells and garbage. We need your help to keep our park clean.

NOTE: Dogs must be leashed or hand held prior to hunting hours and when in any closed area.



Firearm Regulations on Property
Shotgun, Muzzleloaders (including Muzzleloading Pistols) and Bow and Arrow may be used to hunt deer and small game per regulations.

Service Roads (includes Rhodes Road)
Prior to hunting hours: must be unloaded and must be cased
During hunting hours: hunting is permitted from service roads in open areas

Mowed Path/Trails
Prior to hunting hours: must be unloaded and must be cased
During hunting hours: hunting is permitted from mowed paths/trails in open areas

Parking Lots
Prior to hunting hours: must be unloaded and must be cased
During hunting hours: must be unloaded and must be cased

Closed Areas
On paved roads open to public travel: must be unloaded and must be cased
(Rhodes Road is a service road, not a public road -- see above)
Anywhere else in a closed area: must be unloaded and must be cased


Hunting Hours

Waterfowl
South of Hwy 142 (in blind only): Opens and closed per regulations all season
North of Hwy 142: Opens per regulations all season
Closes per regulations UNTIL opening of pheasant season
Closes 2PM during pheasant season

Pheasant
Opening day: 12 Noon to regulation hours
Opens at 9AM; closes at 2PM remainder of the season

Archery Deer
Opens and closes per regulations all season

Gun Deer
Opens per regulations; closes at 2PM until December 31
Opens and closes per regulations remainder of the season (after 12/31)

Small Game
Opens and closes per regulations UNTIL opening of pheasant season
Opens at 9AM; closes at 2PM DURING pheasant season


Other Important Hunting Information

  • Illegal to hunt from within 50 feet of roadways center. Illegal to shoot across highway.
  • Illegal to shoot a firearm within 100 yards of a building, campground, or picnic area.
  • Illegal to leave blinds and tree stands on DNR land overnight. If left unoccupied during the day, stands and blinds need DNR Customer ID# or Name and Address legibly and clearly visible to a person on the ground.
  • New 2008: Ground blinds on DNR lands during any gun or muzzleloader deer season require 144 square inches of Blaze Orange that is visible 360 degrees around the blind (waterfowl blinds are exempt).
  • Blaze Orange Requirements: Minimum of 50% of outer clothing during gun and muzzleloader deer seasons (waterfowl and legal night hunting are exempt). 100% Blaze Orange is recommended. Faded or stained Blaze Orange is unsafe and may not meet requirements.
  • Illegal to use bait for any species.
  • 1st time resident Hunter Safety Education Graduates receive a free small game license and exemption from pheasant and state waterfowl stamps.
  • Be familiar with the area you are hunting and always ask permission if you have to enter private property for game retrieval.
  • Please be respectful of other outdoor enthusiasts and hunters who are enjoying their part in nature.
  • Always remember the 4 Rules of Firearm Safety (Tab K)
    1. Treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
    2. Always have muzzle control.
    3. Be sure of your target, and what's in front of and behind it.
    4. Keep your finger off the trigger until your are ready to shoot.
