Hi Everyone, Here is the Hike Schedule for April 2013: Sunday April 7th - 10am Saturday April 13th - 9am Sunday April 14th - 10am Saturday April 20th - 9am Sunday April 21st - 10am Saturday April 27th - 9am Sunday April 28th - 10am NOTE: No hike April 6th I’ll be out of town. If any of you decide to hike just let me know so I can add it to your mileage log. With the weather getting nicer I am trying to work in some longer hikes. So the plan is to hike Rhodes Rd. on Saturdays and do a shorter trail (gray or green) on Sundays, since we start later. As some of you know, I always participate in the Spring Into Fitness Program at the park every spring. Well, this year they needed a hike leader for the red trail on May 4th. I’m afraid I volunteered for that. It’s 8.3 miles and I’m hoping many of you will join me. The estimated time for the trail is about 4 hours. There is a picnic area at approximately the halfway point where we can stop so bring your lunch. Also, if any of you have any suggestions as to how we can promote the trail dog program, expand our activities, have special events (cgc, potlucks, breakfasts, etc.) please let me know. Remember, this is not my program, this is our program. It’s been a really long winter, let’s get out there and have some fun. I am open to any and all suggestions. See you on the trail. Sharon Nowakowski Gentle Paws Dog Training www.racinedogtrainer.com (414)916-5936

Richard Bong State Recreation Area and the Bong Naturalist Association will hold its annual Spring into Fitness wellness challenge during April and the first week of May at Richard Bong State Recreation Area, 26313 Burlington Road. Teams of two to four can register for $10 each during the month of April or at the kickoff event at 9:30 a.m. April 6th. Participants will then hike a trail and will meet at the Visitor Center. Participants will earn points for engaging in healthy behaviors, including being more physically active (hiking, biking or other activity of choice), engaging in healthy nutritional habits (drinking water or eating more fruits and vegetables), and participating in stress-reduction activities (yoga, dancing or sunrise/sunset viewing). While special events will be offered at the park throughout the month, people may participate in the activities of their choice anywhere. This event will reintroduce the community to the pleasure of a healthy lifestyle and a great natural resource while raising funds to be used for park improvements. Businesses, family, friends, schools, youth and church groups are all encouraged to participate. To receive a registration form or for more information, call(262) 878-5600 or visit Richard Bong State Recreation Area during office hours. This event is sponsored by the Bong Naturalist Association.
